Unacceptable.
Posted by: Kevin B. Gilnack, Campaign Manager
I was shocked on Sunday to learn that Governor Deval Patrick used one of his budget vetoes to reduce the $20 million annualized Salary Reserve that we fought for. Under his plan, human service workers -- who have gone five years without a raise -- would get only a $10 million Salary Reserve that would give workers just a small one-time payment.
That is not acceptable, so let's not accept it. Rep. David Linsky -- who helped secure nearly 100 co-sponsors for the Salary Reserve earlier in the budget process -- has agreed to help lead the charge in securing an override of the Governor's veto.
Rep. Linsky is asking his colleagues in the House to co-sign a letter to Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo, urging him to support a veto override. Can you take two minutes right now to ask your representative to co-sign Rep. Linsky's letter?
By now, you know that one representative can't do it alone. Rep. Linsky needs your help to make sure that human service workers get the raise they deserve.
We've come a long way since the Governor filed his original budget in January, which didn't have any Salary Reserve at all, and thanks to your advocacy, we've educated a lot of legislators about this critical fund and built a lot of support.
Let's help make sure our allies in the legislature know we're still with them and make sure they know how important it is to us that they override the Governor's veto. Please email your representative right now:
